The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the National Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time General Manager position located in Winnipeg, MB. Reporting to the MMF Minister/Chairperson of the Board of Directors responsible for Pemmican Publications, the General Manager will be responsible to take a leading role in the re-establishment and revitalization of Pemmican Publications Inc. The General Manager will work closely with the Minister/Chair of the Board to undertake a governance review for Pemmican Publications and to propose considerations for reconstituting the entity as required. The General Manager will develop and implement effective business plans. Experience in the publishing sector, including in sales and marketing, is a major asset.
Job Duties/Competencies:
• Develop a revitalization action plan for Pemmican Publications in consultation with the Minister and
stakeholders;
• Establish a multi-year budget to support the recruitment, administration, office, storage rentals, and supplies;
• Complete a review of contractual obligations and action accordingly;
• Develop and maintain a complete inventory of Pemmican Publications' materials;
• Research and identify sources of funding and grants, and develop and submit funding proposals;
• Develop and implement business and marketing plans for the republishing and marketing of books;
• Pursue new book deals with Red River Métis artists and/or regarding Red River Métis; and,
• Provide the Minister and Board of Directors responsible for Pemmican Publications with regular reports and attend meetings as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in Business Administration or a related discipline;
• Several years' experience as a senior manager or similar role;
• Demonstrated marketing experience;
• Experience in business/strategic planning, finance, and project management;
• Understanding of general finance management and budgeting;
• Familiarity with Pemmican Publications and involvement in the Red River Métis community is an asset;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
